ALDORIA Unveils World’s Most Powerful Commercial Optical SSA Station Opening in the Canary Islands
New Station
[Le Bourget (France), June 16, 2025] ALDORIA is thrilled to celebrate the activation of its revolutionary MTOS 500 mm optical station. Designed from the ground up to meet the growing demands of civil and government institutions as well as space agencies, this facility represents a major step forward in detecting, tracking, and characterizing objects in Earth’s orbit.
Located under some of the clearest skies in Europe, the MTOS 500 mm station leverages its prime setting to deliver unparalleled performance around the clock. By combining advanced telescope technology with robust data pipelines, ALDORIA equips its clients with the insights they need to protect high-value missions and maintain safe operations in an increasingly busy orbital environment.
What Makes MTOS 500 mm Exceptional:
/ Four 500 mm f/1.5 telescopes working in harmony, delivering both broad sweeps and pinpoint accuracy.
/ Seamless tracking from 300 km to 40,000 km, covering everything from low Earth orbit to the geostationary belt.
/ Detection of objects as small as 7 cm, equivalent to a tennis ball in space (up to visible magnitude 20).
/ Flexible, on-demand data access, tailored to your needs with alerts and custom formats.
Integrated in a global network of optical stations
“Watching this station come to life has been incredible,” says Romain Lucken, CEO of ALDORIA. “The MTOS 500 mm is more than a telescope array, it’s our promise to safeguard satellites and crewed missions in an increasingly crowded orbit.”
“Our team poured their passion and expertise into every detail,” adds Anthony Caron, VP Operations at ALDORIA. “From installation to testing, MTOS 500 mm delivers the reliable, high-resolution data that mission planners and satellite operators have been waiting for.”
The previous generation of MTOS station using off-the-shelf optical tubes allowed Aldoria to detect as many as 15,000 individual resident space objects in a two-week period from one single station. This new generation is poised to detect many more objects, especially small pieces of debris that are not in standard catalogues. Strategically located for its dark, stable skies and minimal light pollution, the Canary Islands site allows MTOS 500 mm to perform nonstop surveys and detailed follow-ups without missing a beat.
