A new ally for Belgium’s growing space security ambitions

[Le Bourget (France), June 16, 2025] ALDORIA, a leading European provider of space surveillance solutions, proudly announces the opening of its new subsidiary, ALDORIA Belgium. This strategic expansion underscores ALDORIA’s commitment to bolstering Europe’s capabilities in Space Situational Awareness (SSA) and space security.

Belgium occupies a pivotal position in the European space sector as the fifth-largest contributor to the European Space Agency (ESA), investing €350 million annually, and serves as an essential partner in SSA and space security initiatives. The Belgian Ministry of Defense, through its Centre for Space Security, has invested significantly in developing capabilities to monitor and protect space-based infrastructure, making Belgium an ideal environment for innovation and collaboration.

In its STAR plan, the Belgian Ministry of Defense states that “the significant civil ambitions in the Belgian satellite domain, as well as the substantial operational dependence for operational support, imply that Defense can no longer neglect the development of space security, notably in terms of Space Situational Awareness.” This recognition underlines the strategic importance of enhancing SSA capabilities on Belgian territory.

Starting in 2025, ALDORIA Belgium will work with the Belgian Ministry of Defense to define research and development components for a flagship SSA project. Additionally, the subsidiary will collaborate with national and European agencies to advance space security objectives.

By establishing ALDORIA Belgium, the company will create high-skilled jobs locally and contribute to Belgium’s economic value, reinforcing the country’s role as a European hub for space technology and defense.

Looking ahead, the establishment of ALDORIA Belgium paves the way for deeper involvement in European and NATO-led space and defense initiatives headquartered in Belgium. This expansion strengthens ALDORIA’s position as a key SSA actor in Europe, furthering its mission to ensure space security and sovereignty across the continent.
